Given this long history, it's sensible to conclude the US has been a tyranny from the start (with periods of waxing and waning intensity). This should be uncontroversial but for many, accepting the stark facts is hard, perhaps impossible.

In what is arguably the World's Best News, it looks like India is going to spend much less time in the "fossil fuel detour" than the US or China. It is moving much more directly to clean electrification.

That's unfair to 8 tracks ... they have vintage rarity value and are rising in price. An LNG terminal is like buying the most expensive Firewire accessory in the world a decade after USB-C and Thunderbolt arrived

YES, the US book and publishing market absolutely affects the Canadian market. Theyβre putting out literal millions of titles per year to our 10,000. So the US administrationβs chilling effect on #LGBTQ publishing will change what new books youβll get to read in the next few years.
What can you do?
- Follow queer authors and their publishers (check out those Canadian and small and academic presses).
- Follow literary journals that feature queer work. Share their content.
- Most of all, buy their books new whenever you can! Sales of new books determine whether a category will be supported, or an individual authorβs next book will make it to print. (Even indie authors have to feel like they can get their books out and recoup their costs.)
And do your book shopping in queer spaces where queer and diverse books are prioritized. Spaces like this only exist if you buy books from them. (US friends, this goes for you too.)
I hate to keep pushing, but my books are some of the only reliable income I have. If you can, please pre-order my new novel, By The Way, and support an indie and LGBTQ+ author and illustrator!

A vintage field-guide style art card on textured paper titled βSpecimen 01: Decayβ and βInky Cap.β A tall inky cap mushroom stands in leaf litter beside a fallen log, with a dark ink band dripping from the cap and a small ink puddle at the base. Three bullet notes describe it self-digesting into ink, appearing after rain, and growing on disturbed ground/wood chips. A small βjuvenileβ inky cap doodle sits on the right, with tiny star-like sparkles scattered around.

Iβm fascinated by the stories about ICE agents sad about being unable to get service in restaurants, because they suggest the ICE agents arenβt just cruel monsters, theyβre too stupid to realize what is likely being done to their food in places where they *are* being served.

The Commons is an online library for the change makers of the world and for those interested in social change, activism, organising, advocacy and justice.
I truly believe discourse about voters (especially those who may have voted for Trump) would go better on this app if everyone was using the spectrum of allies as a framework
