No, you cannot call yourself a bastion of knowledge and intellectual talents, proudly tout TRUTH as your institutional motto, and in the same breath cater to a group of people whose core values are based on conspiracy theories and fantasies that are so ridiculous it borders on pathological.

Harvard has also, in Columbia's footsteps, decided to try to placate Trump by bending over backwards to make itself into something it is not and it cannot become. But to accommodate present-day American conservatives, Harvard must first give up its motto and replace it with its antonym.

The West has a lesson to learn here: no system is too big to fail. All it takes is a well-placed clown, motivated bigoted base, and some effective foreign internet trolls.

China, on the other hand, is wisely investing and has already taken over as the leader in both economics and intellectualism. This, I would say, is bad for the West, but not necessarily for humanity -- that is yet to be determined. As for the rest of us, we better start learning Mandarin.

In short, conservatives are always good enough for their constituents, while liberals will never be good at all for theirs.

Liberals, on the other hand, are not because they follow negative selection methodology -- here is a list of 20,000 issues on which you must align. You are not aligning on one of them? We won't support you.

What's happening in TX is a direct consequence of DOGE, Trump, & Republicans continuously undercutting, underfunding, & destroying systems & infrastructures that are needed for maintaining a civilized & safe society. No amounts of billions in military and paramilitary funding can compensate for it.

I agree in principle, but it seems to me that impact warnings fall on deaf ears. Most Americans only ever change their minds once they feel the impact directly and substantially, even then such a change is not guaranteed. Dogmatism in this country runs deep, too deep, I fear.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.
