Universities are throwing all the minorities they so proudly exploited for their brochures and ads under the fascist clown bus, and hopping on to maintain their comfort. Much like the Nazis in 30s, Christofascist Americans are destroying institutions of knowledge and, with them, the minorities.

#CPConf2025 was a blast, so many cool talks and posters. Shout-out to the organizers for selecting our EHR symposium and to the EHR team for helping me put it together! Special thanks to Greta, Itunu, Lea*, and Julia* (*who could not make it to TΓΌbingen) for making this symposium a reality.

America’s Brain Drain Could Become the World’s Brain Gain Research-funding cuts and immigration changes threaten some of America’s economic advantages.

Since WWII, America has led the world -- economically and in so many other ways -- in no small part because of its willingness to spend on basic research and its ability to attract the world's best and brightest.

That is changing -- fast. My deep dive on the topic:

No, you cannot call yourself a bastion of knowledge and intellectual talents, proudly tout TRUTH as your institutional motto, and in the same breath cater to a group of people whose core values are based on conspiracy theories and fantasies that are so ridiculous it borders on pathological.

Harvard has also, in Columbia's footsteps, decided to try to placate Trump by bending over backwards to make itself into something it is not and it cannot become. But to accommodate present-day American conservatives, Harvard must first give up its motto and replace it with its antonym.

The West has a lesson to learn here: no system is too big to fail. All it takes is a well-placed clown, motivated bigoted base, and some effective foreign internet trolls.

China, on the other hand, is wisely investing and has already taken over as the leader in both economics and intellectualism. This, I would say, is bad for the West, but not necessarily for humanity -- that is yet to be determined. As for the rest of us, we better start learning Mandarin.

The United States has abdicated its role of an economic and intellectual leader for conspiracies and fascism. This, as a consequence, will result in the rest of the West, which has willingly played a second fiddle to the US in these domains for decades, to deteriorate similarly.

In short, conservatives are always good enough for their constituents, while liberals will never be good at all for theirs.

09.07.2025 21:41 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

This is also reflected in conservatives feeling free to constantly neglect their constituents, play in their face, and gaslight them. Meanwhile, liberals are deadlocked in choice paralysis because no matter what they do they will likely eat shit.

Liberals, on the other hand, are not because they follow negative selection methodology -- here is a list of 20,000 issues on which you must align. You are not aligning on one of them? We won't support you.

Conservatives are successful because they generally follow a positive selection methodology -- are you endorsing the core conservative platform? Yes? We will support you.

'Alligator Alcatraz' Detainees Decry Lack Of Water To Bathe, Food With Maggots And 'Mosquitoes As Big As Elephants' A detainee at "Alligator Alcatraz" described harsh conditions, including lack of water to bathe and food with maggots

What's happening in TX is a direct consequence of DOGE, Trump, & Republicans continuously undercutting, underfunding, & destroying systems & infrastructures that are needed for maintaining a civilized & safe society. No amounts of billions in military and paramilitary funding can compensate for it.

I agree in principle, but it seems to me that impact warnings fall on deaf ears. Most Americans only ever change their minds once they feel the impact directly and substantially, even then such a change is not guaranteed. Dogmatism in this country runs deep, too deep, I fear.

I would caveat that with *for now*, she's okay for now. A short stretch of hyperinflation, and all the money becomes useless. The lifelong savings become a loaf of bread. Nobody is safe in chaos, nobody.

I wish I could hold y'all's hands when I tell you this, but it doesn't matter. 99% of Americans could be rabid for increasing funding for medical research, as long as that 1% that makes decisions doesn't care for it, it's not happening.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.
