I did not unfortunately! though don't take my reaction to it as anything conclusive. it definitely has some of the markings of older scifi (characters and plot being secondary to Concepts), but I've heard from a few people that the subsequent books are the better ones of the bunch.

revelation space was honestly such a major disappointment, especially considering how exciting the premise is. I went into it after reading a collection of Reynolds' short stories, and those felt MUCH more current... to the point it's shocking they were written by the same guy.
