Catching up on recent news in the genomics world by watching Roche's SBX technology intro, it's pretty trippy seeing the 13 yr old video from Stratos Genomics which is almost word for word identical for the first 60 seconds...! youtu.be/G8ECt04qPos vs youtu.be/ADzIXItP4hE

Great thread on pertussis.
TLDR - make sure you're vaccinated, make sure your kids are vaccinated against this horrible disease
You should not expect to get pertussis and have everything be okay just because you get a 5-day course of azithromycin. Preventing pertussis disease is by far the best approach and there is nothing right now that works as well for that as being up to date on vaccines.
21.01.2025 06:05 β π 4 π 3 π¬ 1 π 0Pertussis is awful even if youβre not at high risk, but it literally kills and disables babies. The vaccines are not perfect, but keeping up to date and getting boosted in pregnancy is critical.
21.01.2025 05:55 β π 195 π 57 π¬ 4 π 4Your vaccination also protects the lives of babies under 1 who cannot be fully immunized. 10% of adults in NZβs outbreak vs 2/3 of babies have had to be hospitalized.
Pertussis can make small children stop breathing and even a βmildβ case in an adult can mean months of coughing so severe ribs break
"Auckland is not just the place where these things happen to have occurred: this is _a story about Auckland_."
