It was in support of the motion in my name that Cork City Council should continue to back investment in offshore renewables in the region and not be distracted by talk of fracked LNG imports.
OR new data centres highly dependent on more polluting gas and diesel generation, and looking to reserve renewables for themselves?
TLDR we need to prioritise communities and reign in runaway data centre demand.
...Irish homes, communities, and small businesses, who have invested billions over the years through high energy bills (and who are crying out for decarbonised energy and water infrastructure, especially for housing and existing polluting industries)...

"Mr Tarrant said ESB Networks, as a semi-state operating under licence, could not prioritise connections for housing over developments such as data centres, but had to allocate on a first come, first served basis....
We now have ESBN & GNI on record that they can't prevent data centre connections. Upshot is no limits on data centres outside of Dublin + expansion of sites in Dublin - skyrocketing demand, impacts on housing, higher costs, gas dependency & emissions. Urgent need for legislative + policy change!

The more I look at industrial decarbonisation, the more I come to the point of view that we have overstated the role of molecules in the past and underestimated the role of electrons in the future.

The goalposts haven't shifted, the government just ignored them until now. The Habitats Directive has been in force since 1992, it's high time they were properly applied to agri pollution.
