Side research find: here's an encyclopedia ad where the main question would stir up plenty of debate as to some of the answers provided.

Cannot recommend this book highly enough: it takes history education seriously and is a history of ideas about it - it’s also a powerful philosophical enquiry.

Another egregious use of the notwithstanding clause. The right wing populist governments in this country are a scourge.

Intercolonial Railway of Canada : pocket time table, September 15th, 1890 : Intercolonial Railway (Canada) : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive Cover title

In 1890, Expresses left Halifax at 1.30pm and arrived at LΓ©vis at 10.40am the following day - about 20hrs of travel time. But how often was it on time? LAC has govt railway logs for the period, so I suppose average performance could be (maybe has been) calculated.

Civics Education Struggles, Even as Government and Politics Saturate Daily Life

When governments trample on our rights, the courts must be free to weigh in. Full stop Invoking the so-called notwithstanding clause doesn't prevent judicial review, despite what some provincial leaders might say.

England have been so efficient in the red zone and Canada do wasteful in the same spots and that’s your ball game.

Brilliant game from the hosts. Canada had such a brave tournament. Tough to lose like this.

Here is a question for #HistoryEducation. What makes a good Teaching History article? A short thread for #historyteacher s.
Teaching History is a journal published by @histassoc.bsky.social and read by thousands of teachers. (Is that the right 'number'?)

These Ottawa churches opposed heritage status, the city is pushing forward anyway The city is in a rush to give historic buildings heritage status, but several Catholic churches are against the move. Here's why.

Heritage designations are very often contentious. There's a tension between preserving our history and the additional resources that sometimes requires, and cities lack tools to enforce heritage protections. The City could be less parsimonious with help; we need legal teeth from the Province.

Ken Dryden truly cared about what went on around him and wanted to make the world better.

Wrote him a letter as a kid. He wrote back, thoughtfully. That stuck with me.

Met him as an adult in 2011. Told him about the letter. Had a casual chat about cheeseburgers of all things.

A great Canadian.

Great thread. AI planned lessons I've seen are at best very superficial and at worst just plain poor. When teachers deliver lessons without doing the thinking themselves, or understanding the thinking of the person who planned, or without adapting, learning and student thinking are the casualties.
