Central Florida lakes are struggling. Engineers behind this new sensor system want to help Engineers hope the new, autonomous lake monitoring technology they’re developing will help keep Central Florida lakes clean β€” starting with the home of a historic open-water swim.

WFLA Staci DaSilva - Proposed toll road could threaten rare plant found only in Polk County
YouTube video by Florida Native Plant Society WFLA Staci DaSilva - Proposed toll road could threaten rare plant found only in Polk County

Reporter Staci DaSilva of Channel 8 News / WFLA covers the negative impact that construction of the Central Polk Parkway could have on the endangered mint that only lives in one park impacted by current routes. We have been monitoring Blushing Scrub Balm (Dicerandra modesta) on this site since 2018.

Does fact-checking work? What the science says Meta’s planned shift away from third-party fact-checking on Facebook in favour of a crowdsourced approach has perplexed those who study the spread of misinformation.

Based on discussions I see on Facebook, threads, and Instagram, this decision by Meta is the catalyst for the people I know moving to Bluesky as an alternative social media platform.

It was smart, compelling, entertaining, insightful, and incredibly fun to read. Lesley has set up a website for the book, ordering is on Amazon, unfortunately. www.returntolakelulu.com & www.amazon.com/Return-Lake-...

Lesley describes 'Return to Lake Lulu' as a Florida murder mystery. Based on my knowledge how Florida politics work a la the environment, the mystery part of that wasn't all that strong. Despite this, I ran through the book like water through a sieve. [2 of 3]

Usually when handed a book written by a friend I feel more than a hint of trepidation. Seeing the author as the brilliant and somewhat eccentric lawyer Lesley Blackner whom I have worked with on environmental advocacy issues lessened my concerns. [a thread of skeets, 1 of 3]
