The ECORE program will bridge the gaps between research and practice, between academia and conservation efforts on the ground, and will link local researchers to the international community. We look forward to next year to work with partners and support their efforts! ...3/3

🤝 🌳 On Dec. 5, Wyss Academy’s Hub Southeast Asia, with our partner DALaM, was invited to meet Sayaboury Governor Phongsavanh Sitthivong. We discussed ongoing activities and a new program in Laos to co-develop and test locally adapted agroforestry models to protect forests and support livelihoods.

This exchange inspires future initiatives, bridging disciplines and borders. Wyss Academy and the University of Bern are already planning new joint activities with the Institute of Ecology and Evolution, working together for a more sustainable future.

Postdocs and PhD students took center stage, presenting projects that sparked deep discussions on bridging research with real-world impacts. The mutual exchange revealed striking parallels and innovative approaches across continents.

From arid restoration in Europe and Africa to engaging communities worldwide, researchers explored how to unite science with social, cultural, and economic realities. The focus was on developing sustainable and just solutions for biodiversity conservation.

Breaking silos for 21st-century conservation! Wyss Academy’s Biodiversity Conservation Research group led by Professor Margaret Owuor and the @unibern.bsky.social’s Conservation Biology team led by Professor Raphaël Arlettaz met to share insights on challenges faced in the Global North and South.
