Just a gorgeous night here at Assiniboia Downs for the 77th running of the Manitoba Derby and six other races.

Also an enormous crowd, the biggest I’ve seen at the track in years.

Bravo to Winnipeg's Sydney Michalyshen, who just finished 21st in the world at the 2025 CrossFit Games in New York this past weekend. She's the only Manitoban, and one of just three Canadians who qualified for the final stage of competition.

Looking forward to the 77th running of the Manitoba Derby on Monday evening at Assiniboia Downs. A delicious preview luncheon was held today at the track. The two favourites drew the 7th and 8th lanes.

The #NHLJets now project to have about $3.9 million in cap space remaining with a 23-player roster. That gives them wiggle room to handle in-season injuries without needing LTIR - Adam Lowry to start year for example - and be able to accrue a much bigger number for deadline adds.

This was never getting to arbitration IMO, although it sure came down to the wire. 3 years, $5.75 million per season ended up being the last-minute “sweet spot” between the #NHLJets and Samberg, who turns down a longer term and essentially bets on himself. @wiebesworld.bsky.social story: 👇

This seems like a nice term and AAV for both the player and the organization. #NHLJets now have about $10.5 million in cap space and just RFA Dylan Samberg left to sign. I expect that deal to get done in fairly short order here as well.
