Hacktivists tried to find a workaround to Discord’s age-verification software, Persona. Instead, they found its frontend exposed to the open internet, and that was just the beginning.

My ambition is to be good at what I do, not wreck myself for "more." I use AI to make my code better, and tiny personal things, nothing involving agents. I'm a middle-aged woman with hobbies & things to do outside. I still wake up at 4am, thinking about the next thing to solve. It's annoying!

I'm just one person who reads. I enjoy the heck out of your books and those of many other authors. I 100% will not waste a moment of my time or $ reading something generated by a machine. It's a special bonus that I can follow authors on the socials and see your non-professional, human side too.

Introducing Elder Cushion: The Bubble Wrap for Seniors It happens to us all. One day, your mom is telling you to be careful when climbing a tree, and the next day, she’s a seventy-five-year-old standing...

"One day, your mom is telling you to be careful when climbing a tree, and the next day, she’s a seventy-five-year-old standing on top of a wobbly fifteen-foot ladder, dusting a chandelier with an old TV Guide. 'It’s fine,' she yells, 'I’ve been doing this for over sixty years.'"

I don't know about all that, but in the past 2 weeks, with the use of ChatGPT, I've fixed issues, modernized patterns, and upgraded multiple versions of my own code base absolutely 10x faster than the progress I was making without it. Not just unleashing it to rewrite for me, but using it as a tool.

Took the last two days off because I wasn't feeling well. Back to it today, in a light easy way, with a walk in the woods.

I randomly crocheted a dice bag 35ish years ago. My dice are still in it. No pic as I'm not in the same place as it at the moment.

Today's #fitness was a bird walk. Cold & cloudy, we saw 9 species, most interesting being some Great Blue Herons. All the critters were pretty well hunkered down.

screenshot of a post on facebook from Alex Lamoreaux, depicting two versions of the "same" photograph of a bobcat in front of a pine plantation, one labeled original game cam photo, one labeling AI processed

the markings have been altered on the AI photo, and the head changed and resized

text says:

Oh! A neat goose hybrid posted to β€˜What’s this Bird?’ but when you zoom in on the photos the bill details have been too manipulated by AI photo editing to be accurately assessed for which species may be involved.
Scroll on… A cool-looking Red-tailed Hawk that someone is wondering which subspecies it might be - right up my alley! But when you zoom in on the photos literally every feather group has been so heavily manipulated and altered by AI editing that it’s impossible to determine subspecies because the photo is essentially fake now; just a mashup of whatever AI thinks parts of a Red-tail should look like.
Scroll on… WOW! That’s a remarkable trail cam photo of a Bobcat! It almost looks like a painting!… but the head looks oddly small…. hmmmm. After some prodding the original photo is produced and sure enough it had been so heavily altered by AI β€˜post processing’ that the photo posted was essentially a digital mock-up with totally different proportions and fur markings. No longer the photo off the trail cam; it may as well have just been β€˜created’ by AI from scratch.
This stuff is killing me. My days on social media are becoming very limited. We can’t even trust simple, everyday photos of animals to be real. The wildlife community needs to quit editing with AI, and we need to start calling out photographers that are using it. Our reality is being destroyed all around us.

this field biologist does a great job highlighting the insidiousness of AI editing

these one-click AI edit buttons are incredibly appealing to many photographers, amateurs and professionals alike, and are framed as innocuous

this is worth sharing and educating people about

Something about Kiera Knightley just doesn't appeal to my husband, so we've not watched that. Charlize, on the other hand, we are both big fans of. I'd like to be Charlize when I grow up.

That is exactly what annoys me about the polls, too. There's always a "neither of those things" better answer. Which may be one of Michael's points.

I agree with you. The Tiktok points are good, but I don't get that from the comic at all. My experience as a woman has me reading the comic with, "omg, please just listen to the clear request the man made and give him what he asked for." It has nothing to do with judgment of the other options.
