The artists make sense! I work primarily in animation so I can trace the logic, but it's weird when I get followed by someone who is really into fishing and trucks and doesn't seem particularly interested in anything creative or have any connection to other people I know.

I have more "followers" on this platform than most other social media sites, but it's odd when there doesn't seem to be any obvious reason why most of them would have followed me. Is it all bots? I have over 1800 followers, but I feel like maybe 10 of them are real.

Right. Like…why not just actually make the thing? If it was really that hard and time consuming, just actually shoot the commercial and make it look like your brand actually gives a shit about its product.

Getting kind of sick of buying software, then having to download and install software that will download and install the software I just bought. "You don't have enough space"...yeah, no shit. Every app I use requires 350mb of crapware just to install and maintain it.

Yeah, it's partially artistic, and partially practical. The wood shifts and vibrates differently depending on how dry it is, but on the practical side, it helps prevent the instrument from cracking. Any wood instrument will benefit from controlled humidity.

This isn't an ad. I just always felt like I wasn't paying as much attention to my acoustic instruments in the winter as I should because humidity is always tricky to maintain and last I was paying attention, Dampits were the mode du jour for in-case solutions (which weren't great).

For the uninitiated (like I was), you attach the stretto box to the interior of your instrument case. Soak the hydration pack in water for ~20 minutes, pat dry, then pop in the box. My bass viola da gamba case has been a steady 50% humidity since adopting.

PSA: If you play an acoustic instrument and live somewhere that gets dry, Stretto humidifers are a game changer. It's an in-case solution that lasts weeks between being hydrated (as opposed to the every-day maintenance of dampits) and doesn't drip.

Large stringed instrument shaped similar to a cello with sloping shoulders. The instrument has 7 strings and frets similar to a guitar. The scroll of the instrument is carved into the head of a man who may be Dionysus.

String changed and instrument hydrated. I was REALLY worried I was going to need a lot of work, but considering how long it’s been since I’ve done any real viol playing, he’s not in bad shape! Unfortunately my chops are going to need some work now 😩

TIL! I wonder what the catalog breakdown between the two services looks like.

The uncompressed audio is pretty awesome, though. If you have wired speakers and a solid internet connection, you can hear music at insane quality. Some artists upload stuff at 192kHz/4,608kbps which is well beyond CD quality. Just crazy.

The autocomplete on the search bar is sometimes lacking too, so while it's fine for some artists, it may have trouble finding more obscure artists if you misspell a name. Sometimes it won't suggest the full name until you finish typing it which can be annoying.
Minor issues, but worth mentioning.

Tidal isn't perfect. The app doesn't pre-download audio as aggressively as other apps so if you lose your internet connection (like being stuck between stations on the subway), you may experience a drop in audio. There may be a setting to get around that, but I haven't poked around too much.

no idea. I've never used it. Tidal won me over by being the overall highest paying service for artists as well as being able to stream uncompressed audio. I've never used Qobuz, but would be interested to hear about your experience if you switch.

Better yet, buy music and carry an iPod. The audio is WAY better, and you'll get old school cool points. You can also brag about how you're a true fan because you sent money directly to the musician you love instead of paying a CEO who MIGHT (but probably won't) give them fractions of a penny.

Tidal costs less and has better audio quality. If you're afraid of losing your carefully curated playlists, there are services like "Tune My Music" which will automatically migrate those over to Tidal (or any other streaming service that you'd like).

At this point, it's no secret that Spotify pays artists horribly, they run ICE recruitment ads, and their CEO invests heavily in AI military tech. If you still have an account there despite the myriad of alternatives, you're saying you're okay with all of that.

Tidal costs a dollar less than Spotify, has better audio, and you can migrate your playlists over with stuff like tune my music. Make the switch.

for awhile I was making the last name of people in my contacts a reference to how I knew them which sometimes helped but then I’d have “Dave Bar” which was apparently a guy named Dave I met at a bar (or maybe he worked at one?)
