Today’s iOS 26 gripe: the Preview icon - why the hell is it a loupe (who under the age of 40 knows what a loupe is?) and why is it on a blue background instead of something neutral (like the grey background of the Find My app it’s next to?). Old man waves fist at sky!

I’m so over β€œdeep insights”. I just don’t have the time. Can’t some of the insights your platform delivers just be shallow? Little β€˜insightlets’ would be fine, thank you.

Alt text: A newspaper obituary page from The Economist featuring Steve Shirley. The headline reads β€œObituary: Steve Shirley” with a subheading noting she was a pioneer of jobs for women in tech and died on August 9th, aged 91. The page shows a black-and-white portrait of Shirley seated, wearing a light-coloured suit with short hair. The article text begins by recounting her early life and career, including her original name Vera Buchthal, and her contributions to computing and opportunities for women in technology. The newspaper is resting on a wooden table with part of a white brick wall and timber floor visible in the background.

If you possibly can, get a hold of the obituary of Steve Shirley in the 6 Sept issue of The Economist. Incredible life story I’d never heard before. Pioneer of women in tech and autism care.

I don’t understand how a company the size of Apple which needs to compete with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace (and now, Canva) can’t do a better job of importing a Word doc with all the formatting intact. Pages is the worst. They’re encouraging me to use Google Docs.

French is such a great language. In English, we say β€œfounder”. In French, it’s β€œfondateur”. Just one more syllable but it sounds so good. To me it sounds like you’re lovingly crafting a dessert, not building a unicorn.

The oldest login and password in my 1Password repository for an Aussie startup was a login to Zookoda, a blog-to-email service cofounded by Nick McNaughton. Zookoda was acquired by PayPerPost.

I started using 1Password soon after its release in May 2006. That’s a span of about 19.1 years (from June 2006 to August 2025).

I’ve got 7,770 passwords and I only delete superceded passwords. So on average:
