I listen to music while I dream up the next scene. Once I start writing, though, I need quiet. Especially if the songs are in a language I speak.

The Impact changed Cyn's life forever. He was still a little kid, but his dad vanished during the Days of Chaos, and his family lost almost everything. His mom tried to keep them fed which killed her in the end.
Cyn would have never ended on the street

Dealing w/ imposter syndrome?
Yeah... I've no super advice here. I write for fun first and foremost, but ever since sharing my work with others, I've faced the occasional bout of "what am I doing here?"
Positive feedback helps. Concentrating on the story does, too.
That's the attitude!

The gang bosses made a huge impact during the Days of Chaos. They stepped into the vacuum of lost leaders after the Impact and mostly terrorized the people. If you weren't in a gang, you were either rich, lost, or very clever.

βMaybe that is the trick. You managed to make something corporeal.β βLys. Iβm a trickster, not a magician. I canβt do that.β βBut you did something! What did you think when you succeeded?β He rolled his eyes. βI wasnβt exactly thinking much,β he muttered. βI just wanted to get away. Not be there. Be somewhere safe. Be invisible.β βInvisible?β She perked up. βThatβs new. Maybe you cannot conjure up something corporeal, but can you hide someone?β He frowned. The words had been spoken carelessly, out of frustration. He had never thought about being invisible. He had also never tried, at least not consciously.

The unnamed city in which the story takes place is right next to the river. It's divided into quarters, with first being the innermost & richest quarter. The further out, the poorer and less kept. Ninth & tenth on the outskirts are openly rotting.

Depends. Sometimes, I need time to get into the flow.
But once I'm in the flow, all I need is time.

Fishing happens on a bigger scale. The councils oversee all the food industries for the city and organizes the acquisition and distribution of food.
In theory, you could sit down and cast the rod yourself, but no one does that. City people.

Cyn's relationship with water is pragmatic: It's there, it's wet, and it's hopefully clean enough to drink.
He might even have a little wash.

Greetings, #NovemberWorldbuilders! Let's talk about your MC today. What is their relationship with water like? Do they know how to swim? Have they ever caught a fish? Or is it just something that gets in the way during their long journey? Maybe they've never *seen* a body of water so big

Hobbies?
Besides reading and writing?
I used to travel a lot, but Covid put a stop to that and I haven't picked it up again. Aside from that, I run, hike, enjoy culture and science, friends and family.
Sometimes, I binge-watch, but not on a regular basis.

Since the partial collapse of society, wildlife is slowly taking back its living space. Cyn and Lys see several animals in the abandoned rubble of 9th and 10th quarter - so if they tried to fish they'd surely catch something.

I'm a plantser!
For my historical novels, I need to plot more, need to know how I'll wave my story around the known facts.
For fantasy and dystopia, I can go wild and explore more while write. But at some point, I need to know where I'm heading, or it becomes a pain.
#NovemberWorldbuilders 16
The important thing about this river is that it exists. In a world in which society has partly collapsed, access to fresh water is vital.
It is one thing the people don't have to worry about.
(Honestly, I put them through a lot, but not thirst).

#NovemberWorldbuilders 15
There is a river flowing through the town of Cyn and Lys. It gets important when they flee (again) and choose a hideout with access to clean water.
It doesn't have a name though. Well, it does, but it's not important to the story and not mentioned.
