No,they must not, imho. I think it's a fine line between adequate self-reflection and feeling like an imposter.

Sometimes, I simply dip over.

I listen to music while I dream up the next scene. Once I start writing, though, I need quiet. Especially if the songs are in a language I speak.

The Impact changed Cyn's life forever. He was still a little kid, but his dad vanished during the Days of Chaos, and his family lost almost everything. His mom tried to keep them fed which killed her in the end.

Dealing w/ imposter syndrome?

Yeah... I've no super advice here. I write for fun first and foremost, but ever since sharing my work with others, I've faced the occasional bout of "what am I doing here?"
Positive feedback helps. Concentrating on the story does, too.

The gang bosses made a huge impact during the Days of Chaos. They stepped into the vacuum of lost leaders after the Impact and mostly terrorized the people. If you weren't in a gang, you were either rich, lost, or very clever.

Post image β€œMaybe that is the trick. You managed to make something corporeal.”
β€œLys. I’m a trickster, not a magician. I can’t do that.”
β€œBut you did something! What did you think when you succeeded?”
He rolled his eyes.
β€œI wasn’t exactly thinking much,” he muttered. β€œI just wanted to get away. Not be there. Be somewhere safe. Be invisible.”
β€œInvisible?” She perked up. β€œThat’s new. Maybe you cannot conjure up something corporeal, but can you hide someone?”
He frowned. The words had been spoken carelessly, out of frustration. He had never thought about being invisible.
He had also never tried, at least not consciously.

Besides reading and writing?
I used to travel a lot, but Covid put a stop to that and I haven't picked it up again. Aside from that, I run, hike, enjoy culture and science, friends and family.

Sometimes, I binge-watch, but not on a regular basis.

I'm a plantser!

For my historical novels, I need to plot more, need to know how I'll wave my story around the known facts.

For fantasy and dystopia, I can go wild and explore more while write. But at some point, I need to know where I'm heading, or it becomes a pain.

The important thing about this river is that it exists. In a world in which society has partly collapsed, access to fresh water is vital.
It is one thing the people don't have to worry about.

There is a river flowing through the town of Cyn and Lys. It gets important when they flee (again) and choose a hideout with access to clean water.

It doesn't have a name though. Well, it does, but it's not important to the story and not mentioned.
