I’ve also met people that don’t want to partake in it, and I don’t add them to lists. But when I’m part of grassroots orgs that are all moving from FB to Bluesky, and because we are amassing each other as friends quickly, we are being labeled by the self-appointed police? I wish I had the time…

Some of us are very open about our mental health struggles, very real people. We are also grownups that can vet. We’ve had to block people that swear up and down they are liberal because something they said was wrong. I appreciate what you think you’re doing, but it’s not actually helping.

Everyone I’ve met on here is trying to build a community; we are scared, from places that are deep red. People from all walks of life including public school employees (🙋🏻‍♀️), but we are being added to lists. Writing and sharing multiple Substack articles, on lists.

Not to mention the fact that one of the school board members called the police to her home one evening over the books that we had in our libraries. She enables death threats and never denounced them.

This was said to a friend of mine (recording the entire exchange) at a school board meeting. People dressed in tactical gear mad about books. They told her they wanted to shoot her right between the eyes. On camera, in front of the cops…and nothing ever happened to them. I knew we were unsafe then.

I just got a public death threat from a few folks who noticed I am doing a library event to talk about my career and my books. They called me all the familiar names, then “I won’t be sad if someone shoots her in the face.” And a woman’s reply, “Right between the eyes.”

I am a children’s author.

Good call. I assume they assume the worst about me and never once assume they are actually being nefarious. Probably that. Thanks! 🩵✨
