been in the weeds with work for the past few months orz

finished sketching out my toxic yuri artcore track

crimson peak (2015)

guillermo del toro gothic period piece filled with incest, murder, and aesthetics. the actual plot of the story is fairly straightforward and the last third feels a bit unnecessarily action heavy. the vibes and outfits were the best part 6.5/10

went to tijuana today for an Adventure and it was definitely that. the tacos were delicious at least

but as i look back, i see that i've often written more melancholic and moody music than not, despite all of the more well known stuff i've done. maybe this is just who i really am: a sobering thought

nearing the completion of this soundtrack that has taken me about two years to finish, during which i've gone through several major life changes. looking back, i feel more and more that the music i've worked on has become a crystallization of my life at that particular moment in time

suzume no tojimari (2022)

usually not too fond of makoto shinkai works but this one felt unusually ghibli-ish, focused on a road trip across japan with an ensemble cast. beautiful visuals but i think the story tried to do too much with various character arcs and was generally a bit too long. 7.5/10

medalist s1 (2025)

inori, a young girl who wants to skate but sucks, gradually comes into her own under the coaching of tsukasa, a retired ice dancer. as they work together, both skaters discover more about themselves thru each other. great animation and pacing aside from an odd time skip. 8.5/10

hmm, not the most up to date on that... i would probably start poking around the synthv/vocaloid/utau wikis

my memories on it are fuzzy but i remember thinking it was consistently good but low stakes compared to zenshu. the two feel pretty different as well, since shirobako falls into CGDCT/drama for me and zenshu feels almost otome adjacent. (i really wish they did more with the studio subplots)

an interesting twist on the usual isekai formula, throwing a creative into the world of her lifelong inspo. great art and animation, but the show has an undercurrent of wanting to be something more that never manifests, probably due to time constraints. should've been 24 eps, 7.5/10

lots of rewrites and new material, most of it good, in miyahiro route. i was not absolutely not prepared for the intentional hate crimes towards jun maeda's style in chihiro's route, which remained mostly the same. enjoyable aside from a copout ending. 7.5/10

the five !s are required like keijo!!!!!. starts off with a troupe of deeply flawed characters desperately trying to find meaning and purpose in their lives and traumabonding over it. k-on but everything goes wrong and is cringe. had a great and awkward time 8.5/10
