I tend to write in first person. It is easier and more natural for me. As far as reading, it doesn’t matter. A good story keeps me glued to the pages.

Me too. I will never submit some work, but I still keep them around for ideas. Funny on how this was a topic for this week as yesterday I looked at some decades old work to see if they could be useful in my current WIP.
