I do want to know wtf the dems that voted to reopen the government were thinking. I know why they would be uncomfortable with it being closed, but it seems like all they got were some people being rehired and a promise for a vote from untrustworthy republicans.

Democrats always have to clean up after republicans and Biden had a lot of more to clean up then usual. But, we still came out of covid better then most other countries and even our inflation was lower then almost everyone else. Plus the ACA got better rates and we got another round of stimulus.

You have to head them off by already associating something people like with it.

Except not really. If people can understand that medicare is good and universal then republican fearmongering is less effective against it. When the ACA was being worked on republicans endlessly shouted about death panels and losing your doctor and such. You can't argue against them in real time.

That is just the republican propaganda talking. They want you to believe that since it means that it doesn't matter who is in power so it might as well be them. You see great strides when democrats are in power, but they don't shout about everything like republicans do so you don't realize it.

I think the big problem that the democratic party has is that they like when government works. They aren't as willing as republicans to just burn everything down.

You want to call it universal health care since its a damn popular program and still pretty universal. Separating it from true universal health care lets republicans fearmonger on it, which they will since they have never found a topic they don't like to fearmonger on.

The US does have some form of Universal Healthcare. Medicare. Everyone over, I think 65 is eligible. But, its always a political football since conservatives keep wanting to get rid of it because they are very stupid and should never be allowed in power.
