Oh, wait a second. It appears that the Government of BC now already has a verified Bluesky account.
Sorry about the whoopsie.

Oh, wait a second. It appears that the Government of BC now already has a verified Bluesky account.
Sorry about the whoopsie.
The Government of Yukon's account appears as verified, with a blue checkmark. As does New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland & Labrador.
Hence, the Government of BC might opt to do the same.
Oh, and one other as well:
@yukon.ca
Sorry that I seem to have missed that one.
Hence, with BC now on Bluesky, that makes 5 provinces and 2 territories on Bluesky. Out of a total of 13 provinces and territories.
7/13? That would technically be a majority now on Bluesky, yes?!

As per where I live, the closest thing that Alberta has to a presence on Bluesky might be this account belonging to "Danielle Smith":

Maybe X/Twitter works better than Bluesky for a premier hoping to sever ties between Alberta and the rest of Canada.
A few other provinces are on Bluesky, along with one territory -- that I know of:

It's great to see the Government of BC now on Bluesky.
If memory serves me correctly, the Government of BC now joins other Canadian provinces. But it may be the first Western Canadian province to get a province-level Bluesky account.

For the past few months, Iβve been trying to get off US tech and I put together a guide so you find alternatives too. I hope you find it helpful!
Also to note, the Hon Eleanor Olszewski appears to have changed her Bluesky user handle. At least, I think that she did. Her user handle is now @eleanorolszewski.bsky.social
Hope that this information is helpful for you!

Hi Lori,
I have a Starter Pack of Liberal MPs that I was able to find.
I found 87. Out of a total of 169, that would be just ever so slightly over half.
Can't be sure that all the accounts are genuine, though.

#TakeDownTwitter
The Government of Canada needs to take leadership on a Collective Action problem plaguing much of the developed world by ditching X/Twitter. And help to reclaim the letter 'X' for the English language. Not some far-right echo chamber masquerading as a 'platform' for everyone.
16.07.2025 03:09 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0New connections need to be forged in places that don't offer immensely tilted favourability to the far-right and alt-right.
Bluesky is one of those options. I don't think that the algorithms are rigged towards progressives here. The algorithms are just not super-cranked for the far-right on Bsky.
Just cause Musk had $44 B to spend to take over Twitter and make it far right does not make it okay when you know it's gone far right.
X/Twitter is sort of just an oversized Parler or Gab or Rumble or Truth Social. It continues to rely on legacy recognition and connections.
Plus, in the Big Scheme of Things, which is the right far-right network to use? X/Twitter or Truth Social?
Really, the answer is neither. Clear out the gov't from both.
Thankfully, I don't think that Carney's Liberals would allow for the Government of Canada to start up presences on Truth Social. Especially not in this time of threats made to Canadian sovereignty, coming from the U.S. president.
So an X-it from X/Twitter would allow Canada to claim neutrality.
Canada could note that Elon Musk's pet-turned-monster Twitter/X would be one network, whereas the president's Truth Social would be another.
In order to not take sides, Canada could clear out the gov't from both. Then we could claim staunch neutrality in the online fits btw Musk and the U.S. pres.
But here is the rub: Elon Musk is now out of favour with the U.S. pres. Hence, if Carney wants to cave again, or if he needs to seek permission from the U.S. in order to do a gov't-wide X-odus, then if Canada gets off X/Twitter, it wouldn't be a blow to the U.S. pres. We would be doing him a solid.
16.07.2025 03:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Hence, with the recent series of capitulations, how else might we wind up caving or capitulating?
16.07.2025 03:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0And we seem to be set on eroding, if not eviscerating privacy rights, whether of immigrants or potentially even Canadians. It would seem that this is because the U.S. wants us to.
