Of course, all of this is completely meaningless.

I like this friend a lot and want to keep this relationship. So I'm practicing restraint while I work through my thoughts and feelings.

Being scrutinized and called out over someone else's CBT joke makes me feel like I have to be extremely careful with everything I say because I don't know what will set them off. It doesn't make me feel like I have the freedom to say whatever as long as I tag it properly.

The thing with my friend is. Mm. I don't know how to express to them that the way they sometimes engage with very, very anodyne things that I say makes me feel like I'm dangerous and gross.

That came out both incoherent and overwrought. But seriously. It's not right. People can make excuses all they want, but they know it's not right.

I'm done trying to be diplomatic about people's attachment to the first thing. It's basically human sacrifice and it's indefensible. No matter what somebody's done or how much shame you feel about having things in common with them, it's inhumane.

Antecedents to these opinions.

1. I got in an argument today with someone who was mourning the suicide of a [term I don't like that they explicitly used, for someone who gets surveilled/harassed].

2. I got really frustrated with a friend earlier this week for asking me to trigger-tag a joke post.

I'm trying out this "expressing my opinions" thing. OK, two of them: There is no ethical participation in an internet surveillance mob, and granular trigger warnings are more a tool of control than a help to anyone.
