It's insane to me, that there's a genuine movie, from a talented person, with a lot of thought and love put into it, that gets 30m views on netflix, and then there's some Fart Machine, made by AI in all but end credits, that also gets that viewership according to netflix.

See, The Finals went completely past me, so I'm not too aware of it's stuff. I am aware of Embark's CEO constantly and proudly talking about AI and as much as it makes me not like him, I can't fully be on board with the convo around how the game has gen AI outside of the TTS stuff.

And like, I'm willing to admit that when it comes to audio I'm freaking bad, unless it's genuine Windows XP TTS voice. I'm just really looking for some definitive proof for NPCs

I saw them talking about TTS for raider barks and all that stuff in PCGamesN interview. They haven't mentioned NPCs. And I don't think it's clear that mission dialog is generated. For something not to be under debate it needs to be obvious beyond "I think it is, so it is".

And don't get me wrong - fuck them if they use AI for actual voices of NPCs and all of that, but fighting AI by making shit up and then believing is it not helpful in the slightest. We can and should argue the ping system using TTS, but the conversation moved from that to "everything's AI"

Both are sourcing PCGamesN, where devs state that exclusively about ping system, never about NPCs. You just shamed voices of NPCs, which are fully voiced (unless you have proof of the opposite, because I sure as shit can't find any)

Do you have a definitive proof that any NPC is voiced by TTS AI or not? Or a source for any of that? I can't overstate how hard it is to actually find proof of that, but considering that your review is taken as gospel by so many, I hope at least you can provide that proof, cause no one else can.

Question, cause I really can't find any confirmation online and you seem to be the source for all this - you state that NPCs are AI voiced, when Embark pretty much confirmed to PCGamesN that it's purely Raider pings and stuff like that (so basically only player characters) that use that.

Arc Raiders dev "in no way uses generative AI whatsoever" for its visuals, but here's why Embark still has to disclose on Steam Generative AI doesn't contribute to Arc Raiders' superb aesthetic, but Embark tells us how the team has relied on AI during development.

Except they have VAs and do pay them. But I guess who cares about the actual truth, when eurogamer already made up your mind, huh?

Going back to the topic, you just now have a great potential to insult your fellow VA (NPCs ARE voice acted), just because you *think* it's AI doing that. Are you 100% sure that what you're being told is true and not a witch hunt, of which you'll be ashamed of?

Even for Steam page's mention, devs who are asked are like "yeah, we don't have that, and we can't really say why it's there". So before people keep propagating this into a thing that doesn't exist and becomes widely accepted lie, I genuinely want to find a definitive source of gen AI being used

Do you have actual proof of gen AI, other than what journalists overblown? Every ACTUAL interview I can find is them using text-to-speech AI for player characters, but everyone pushes for "All NPCs are AI" which I can't find any proof of

What I'm confused about is that Embark says that AI (text-to-speech one) is used for raider in-game commands, but EG review (and everyone) pretty much says that every single NPC is AI, which I don't believe is the case, according to Embark. So what's happening here?

Yeah, and thanks to these folks, but I'd rather pay full price for indies, and not pay $100 for $70 AAA, whose publisher couldn't be fucked to check if they are setting a normal price tag for the region.

Valve just goes "if you use AI - disclose it", but that's not helpful, cause AI today is in such a shitty place, that actual things we hoped it would help us with are being bundled with theft and burning the planet to the ground.

I think valve needs to be stricter in rules for AI disclosure. Cause AI itself is never the issue, you can have models you train on your own data that artists use not to create images/sounds/code etc, but to simplify actual chore humans don't want to do (Into the Spiderverse did this already)
