as an addendum, i think an important skill white folks need to develop in anti-racism is noticing when other white people are choosing silence. for example, noticing a whole lot of white people who have zealously attacked/defamed BIPOC in racist tantrums being dead silent right now. wonder why!

it's hard, for lack of a better term, to tell yourself "the platform is just dead, people are just quiet," as a way to comfort yourself when artworks, pieces of writing, attempts to talk about lore get minimal engagement ; only for posts about racism to routinely, immediately have eyes and likes.

I wish people cared as much about engaging with the creative works of bipoc as they did engaging with conversations about racism. especially when there is so much work that confronts, cannibalizes, and generates both comfort + catharsis in spite of, or despite of it. it feels sadistic after a point.

it's because white people view racism as an interpersonal issue rather than a societal one, so asking them to look inward at how they perpetuate it is an attack on the self rather than an interrogation into their own views of people of color.

How come when white people talk about racism they’re seen as brave or enlightened and applauded, but when BIPOC speak about racism we’re maligned and considered belligerent or tiresome?

We all notice the double standard. What gives?

hey btw if you can pour hours of energy into your oc's when it comes to research, design, themes, etc then you can do the same when it comes to avoiding racist tropes, traits, etc. you can't say "it's just fiction" when their is real life harm that is perpetuated from these things
