I wrote up a much shorter, and hopefully more accessible, post about theoretical changes you could anticipate seeing using transdermal buprenorphine for dissociative disorders with borderline traits. I'll try to get it posted today.

Someone close to me with DID and high borderline traits is considering this treatment with their clinician. I’m curious what we’ll learn, but that would still be anecdotal, not evidence.

Just to clarify, my experience is with BPD. I don’t have structural dissociation or daily dissociative impairment. My discussion of plural systems is theoretical and based on mechanism and limited data, not lived experience with DID/OSDD.

That’s a valid concern. I didn’t personally experience emotional flattening at my dose, but it is reported at higher doses, and very sensitive people could potentially feel it even at lower ones. If borderline traits aren’t present, ultra-low-dose naltrexone may be a lower-risk place to start.

Theoretically, yes. It could translate to more shared memory and a greater sense of control, but it’s still largely hypothetical. I’d want more clinical evidence before being definitive. We have seen similar outcomes with ultra-low-dose naltrexone when borderline traits aren’t present.

It’s not about forcing integration. The hypothesis is that steadier baseline opioid signaling may reduce stress-driven dissociation and support greater co-consciousness between headmates. Any integration would remain a therapeutic choice, not something medication imposes.

Thanks for asking this. These are important concerns. There’s no direct clinical research on transdermal buprenorphine in plural systems. What I’m describing is a theoretical model based on buprenorphine’s mechanisms, low/ultra-low-dose naltrexone data, and one anecdotal case.

i'm so unbelievably excited about the research i've been working on & how i've seen it benefit people close to me. i'm finally making tangible progress on it after it living only in my head for a few years. i imagine it will be a long & uphill battle, but i sincerely believe it will be worth it.

i owe some people replies. it's been a busy & chaotic month to say the least.

It’s been one of those weeks where multiple unrelated things all decide to go wrong at once — sick kitty, broken dryer, unexpected house stuff, pharmacy issues.

It's been stressful, but I know it’s all going to work out.

Learned more than I ever expected about ERISA and how employer-sponsored insurance plans are actually enforced.

this is still somewhat true of what life looks like for me, but in the 2nd half of 2025 i did a lot more paid work, mostly programming, & it was really enjoyable for many reasons.

We need more research & better patient education, but stigma & lack of financial incentive mean that won’t happen without more awareness.

I put together a website about BPD & how low-dose buprenorphine helped me become more stable. The endogenous opioid dysregulation theory suggests that people with BPD may have lower baseline endogenous opioids & end up trying to self-regulate through intense behaviors.

I had a gum grafting surgery over a month ago & something I didn't realize is that literally any surgery can mess with GI motility. Slowed GI motility makes you feel awful.

I finally feel better today after a month of feeling off & low energy.

I'm also feeling really anxious about the demo. I'm just trying to remind myself that I'm learning a lot & results aren't instantaneous. I'm making progress.

I took Jasper to the vet yesterday because he all of a sudden started drooling a lot, no other obvious issues. It's still happening today too. I'm feeling worried about him, so I hope the bloodwork shows something.
