As a point of comparison, I do not write software with common sense. I write software with uncommon, hard-earned sense, which may at times be quite unintuitive from a layperson's perspective. I am a professional, you see, so I apply my specialist knowledge to my work.

I do not, in fact, want common sense from my legislators. I want expertise. I want them to apply their knowledge of law, and I want them to consult appropriate experts in other areas. I want them to approach their jobs like fucking professionals.
