There is no diplomatic solution to the russian problem.

It seems to me that many have still not fully understood that Trump simply does not want to play the role that Europeans want him to play. He does not want to provide security guarantees for 🇺🇦, neither in the first nor in the second line. No 'strong US backing' will materialize.

He and many others haven’t grasped that Ukrainians would always prefer to fight even with diminished defense capabilities rather than surrendering to Russia and handing over their freedom and lives.

This televised event was historic. It's the latest in a sequence of very obvious signals that Pax Americana is over. But an extreme and very dramatic break in protocol we've never seen before and readers/viewers need help interpreting. They don't get it from the chump who wrote this.

I think what makes this moment feel so big and groundbreaking is that even those among us who have been talking about the need/danger of a Europe without the US for a long time, were usually in the mindset of a US disinterested in Europe. But not a US actively hostile to Europe& European interests.
