Daylight Savings as a concept sounds so stupid that I’m glad I’ve never had to experience it first hand. The most I’ve been inconvenienced by it is a change in time of inter-provincial Teams meetings.

Yesterday I saw an image of the shocker hand with the phrase, ‘one in the thoughts, two in the prayers’, which is actually fantastic because it’s now what I’ll think of when I see a car sporting that decal. A sense of peace. A problem solved. Years of dirt washed away.

I was in my 20s when my stepdad adopted me, and it was done as a gesture of appreciation. We didn’t know shit. I needed a new copy of my BC, and the current ones list birth parents on it. It’s so uncomfortable to look at. Adoption is so poorly understood/explained and I’m big mad about it.

Do I just phone the ministry of health and be like, ‘hey, can you re-issue my birth certificate to put down a dead man as my father? No, we’re not related by blood. Yes, I consented to adoption. No, we didn’t know my vital stats would change, and it’s lousy that this shit wasn’t told to us’

I am so, so desperate to have my birth certificate reverted. My stepdad (no shade) legally adopted me as an adult, but didn’t know my BC would be rewritten. Given my actual dad has been 🪦 since ‘07, I don’t even know if this is possible as I learned since then I was anonymously donor conceived.

There is nothing quite as thrilling as having your birth records changed without consent! Come on down, people! It’s ‘erase where the you came from’ season! Sell your DNA to 3rd party websites to ensure you don’t fuck a cousin by mistake! High five very nice!

Once more, with feeling: there are two types of adoptees/DCP - those who have come to acknowledge the flaws and injustice of adoption/donor conception, and those who have yet to find this community.

I cannot remember for the life of me how I stumbled across adoptee twitter, but it changed my life.

$50-$60 for a vinyl blind box toy is not a great investment, but not everything I opt to spend money on has to be practical. I throw that much money to the wind just by people asking me for change and all I have on hand is a tenner. Once in a blue moon I’ll buy a scratch ticket.

My amazing friend/host allowed me to buy a seated one off her. Obvs I’m over the moon for this! I’m grateful. But I also hate this Labubu system to much that I feel a primal urge to participate in a way that isn’t complete nonsense. Which is still nonsense because wtf.

For my trouble I may even buy two, but these aren’t an ‘I think they’re neat’ purchase any longer. This is money I’m going to spend out of spite. To prove to myself that as much as I wasn’t looking forward to this journey, I would regret not making it.

I initially wanted one because they’re basically Marge’s 🥔 - ‘I just think they’re neat’. At this stage in the game I’m now making a 3hr round trip through Vancouver to a store that will literally just sell me one for very little markup. Basically what I’d pay on the website with shipping.

I’m always on a notification list for Labubu restocks but they usually happen when I’m at work. Last night I learned it’s not enough to add one to your basket, but it’s an unhinged game of rapid clicking and high stakes and holy crap I just want to buy one like a normal human wtf is this.
