Evaluating youth employment schemes: what we learned from two pilot studies Sometimes feasibility studies don’t become full evaluations – and that’s OK

πŸ’Ό πŸ” Programmes for young people not in education, employment or training need more evaluation to understand what works and for whom – but these evaluations are complex to design and face significant implementation barriers, write Irene Soriano Redondo & @sussumhum.bsky.social

🚨 GCSE resits aren’t the problem. Not holding GCSEs is.

There’s a lot of concern in the news about GCSE resits today. What’s missing is concern for the young people who don’t secure passes in English and maths, and what that means for their futures.

Here’s the reality 🧡

One major problem with "viewpoint diversity" is that it's only ever applied to predominantly left wing professions. No one is calling for politicians, judges, the military, the police, or the business world to be more ideologically diverse.

While the UK government is fighting to win an imaginary -and likely non existing- voter torn between Labour and Reform, they alienate the very real and rapidly growing electoral pool of first and second generation immigrant voters who overwhelmingly voted for Labour and today feel betrayed.

I love America, love travelling there, and love spending my tourist ££ there. But I can't see any reason to do that under the current regime. There are so many other places to go that aren't currently actively oppressing people and destabilising the world order.

The Observer view on SUVs: they are too dangerous and too big, their drivers should be made to pay If a car generates more potholes, takes up more space and poses more risk, it is only fair that its owner pays more

I couldn't agree more. One of the things I liked about the UK (vs Australia) when I came ten years ago was the relative absence of SUVs. They are a blight on the road and make nobody (including their passengers) safer.
