I have become convinced that political maturity in DSA requires factions to conclude that "winning DSA" is either unobtainable or inadvisable and grow comfortable with the idea that if they want to get anything done in the org, they'll need to compromise with people outside of their particular niche

The activist or "ultra" org will fall victim of pretty much all cadre organizations. It will devolve into a tiny sect focus on reading groups and paper sales. Pathetic and irrelevant. So either Our Revolution or the Spartakus League, thats the fate if DSA fails to hold itself together.

I think if, God forbid, DSA ever does split, the resulting two orgs will go end up as encapsulations of the typical end in the US left. The electoralist org will fall into the Democratic Party in a vain attempt to reform it. It will be absorbed, consumed, digested, and spat out.

As a proud product of such miscegenation (I like calling it that instead of intermarriage cause it pissed of the bigots) I take this matter pretty seriously and with a high level of spite

Minus the ultra orthodox, every Jewish institution in the US has been slowly losing members for years. But I'd love to see a comparison between those denomations that have welcomed intermarriage families vs those who shamed them. Something tells me turning away Jews has not been a winning strategy

THIS! The activist side of dsa, and electoralism side of dsa need each other. Electoralism helps get dsa a lot of attention in the mainstream. While the activist side keeps us attached to the many left movements in the USA. We need this to continue.

The real proof of this is going to be Zohran. The success of his mayoralship will be directly proportional to the strength of the left mass movements in NYC. That requires a vision of an inside/outside approach thats both supportive of him in office but still building independent activist movements

Sorry to get all dialectics here, but it is the synthesis between the activist mass movement approach and the electoralism approach that has allowed DSA to be as successful as it has to date and will be in the future. A better understanding of that on both sides would be to everyone's benefit

Activist left DSA needs the electoralists because its the electeds who make it easier to pass the reforms/measures the activists are fighting for. And the right electoralists need the activists because without mass movements they elected socialists have nothing to overcome establishment resistance.

Maybe I'm a minority in an increasingly divided DSA but I actually think maintenence of the detente between the left "activist" "ultra" and the right "electoralist" is a good thing for both sides and is necessary for both to achieve their stated goal. Any split would be devastating to both.
