I'd have a better time asking my question on 4chan and sorting through a bunch of slurs, soyjacks, and messages telling me to kill myself than using Google in its current state. Duckduckgo is at least slightly better, but I find myself just returning to obscure forums for everything now

I have never used Chatgpt, and probably never will
But to say that Google gives you a direct answer is just plain false recently
I just get Google's own AI slop answer that I have to disable every few weeks, or a bunch of unrelated/outdated search results sprinkled in between sketchy sites
