Speaking as a former archaeologist, couldn't you look at the midden? There's probably a deposit (or filled well) with trash that may look materially different from a household midden. Of course, old, male archaeologists may assume those differences are "ritual objects."

I think it's pretty clear at this point that the "humans showed up, megafauna rapidly died" overkill hypothesis is basically dead. Which is not the same thing as saying that humans played no part in what happened at the end Pleistocene! But at most we seem to have been one stressor among many
