Today I came into contact with someone who wrote a text book that was key to my first undergrad degree #linguistics 30 years ago, and discovered that his brother had written one of the text books used in my second undergrad degree #geosciences. Lecturers are like rock stars! 👩🏻‍🎓

Does anyone have a recommendation for a textbook that could be used for both mineralogy and ig/met petrology courses? I’m trying to reduce the number of books my students need to purchase and have found that hard copies work better for them than online-only options.

We tried compiling a global database of deposit descriptions of pyroclastic density current deposits. The aim was to help us do big data analysis, look for common trends, and to support modelling.

We got some interesting results but also, found some really significant issues and gaps #IAVCEI2025
