I save a lot of chibis where I like the shape design, and then try to break down the proportions so I can copy it. You can use a lot of 3D logic, or focus on shape design, it's such a deformed style the sky is the limit. I have a chibi textbook if you want a link, I uploaded it to mega a while back.
