This is the collapsing terminus of Rhone #glacier yesterday - retreating out of its proglacial lake. Impressive changes going on during the heat wave!
We measured almost 3 meters of ice melting over the last 4 weeks... This is 10 cm of ice layer removed every single day!!

Continent-wide mapping shows increasing sensitivity of East Antarctica to meltwater ponding - Nature Climate Change This study provides a continent-wide assessment of surface meltwater area in Antarctica between 2006 and 2021, highlighting recent increases in magnitude and variability in East Antarctica, with indic...

I’m delighted to share that our new paper is now out in @natclimate.nature.com! Our long-term, monthly Antarctic-wide dataset of surface meltwater shows that the East Antarctic Ice Sheet is becoming increasingly prone to surface meltwater ponding.

I recently got an opportunity to speak on glaciers and how would the world look like if the climate is continuously warming up, and glaciers are losing mass.

Tried my best to communicate from my experiences and domain knowledge in this podcast!

What does the glacial geomorphology tell us about the past? Imagine standing in a wide, U-shaped valley, high up in the mountains. The air is crisp, the wind whistles through rocky outcrops, and all around you is silence.

Properly mind-blowing event yesterday east of Annapurna II (NE face visible here, 7,937 m, Nepal)! 😱

Probably triggered by ice (+rock?) avalanche at high elev., given the reach and the absence of snow at the moment 🧊

I never expected, 130 people to turn up and listen to me (just an enthusiastic guy, wanting to talk about glaciers). Watching all engage, ask questions, and reflect on what I spoke, reminded me why I do what I do. Science is also about stories, emotions, and the impact we can create together.
