If you're trying to grow food and you wanna grow throughout the season, do yourself a favor and find your first and last freeze and frost dates.

Also look up your highest temp dates. These 3 pieces of information is gonna tell you when to best seed start, water, and harvest.
I'll help ๐Ÿซถ

I love this! Big points on that worm farm! So many ppl miss out on how valuable worm castings are. Looks like you've got some happy plants.

I'll try and post some cool planting guilds you might be interested (include many of those plants).

Happy to share more (sry been trying to type this through the day) what kind of things are you growing?

2- Soil test in the spring and the fall. Focus on building soil composition (the balance of sand silt and clay) vs just nutrients and ph. Add organic matter, and explore watering with compost tea. Sandy soils tend to dry out faster and not hold nutrients well.

Oh lots!! Buckle in because this is turning into a thread โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ”ฅ
1- Pine trees drop needles that are great as mulch and basket weaving. What most ppl don't realize is (depending on the type of pine) those needles are acidic. Meaning as they decompose, they lower your soil ph naturally. Too low ph =๐Ÿ‘Ž

If you're feeling overwhelmed, please know you aren't alone. None of this is normal

We're not meant to constantly experience what's happening. Knowing what's going on is important, and you are not wrong for needing time to breathe.

Don't stop doing good. You matter.๐Ÿซ‚

I started my entire garden (now farming) journey by learning what birds mean.

An influx of barn swallows often == insects are about to boom.๐Ÿฆ

Goldfinches and sparrows == healthy soil and seed diversity.๐ŸŒฑ

Aphids mean there's a nitrogen imbalance, which attracts chickadees.๐Ÿชฒ

There's at least one person in every garden group that knows a ton about a thing (beit a about plants, certain birds or trees), Yet they are often the ones not speaking up and sharing their knowledge because they feel like everyone probably knows it.

Spoilers, we don't.
So I ask, PLZ SHARE HERE ๐Ÿ‘‡

Another thing, garden wise, often times there will be someone in the group that knows a lot about a thing (like a bird, insect, or plant) and they aren't usually first to share. Look for the person with knowledge and listen to their stories. That's where the magic is ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Hell yea way to go!!! โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ”ฅSomething that helped me when I first started connecting with community, is connection doesn't always mean talking or engaging with ppl. It's helping others while honoring your energy limits in the process. Small acts and noticing others matter too.

Call me stubborn, but I refuse to let this insanity prevent me from doing good.

If there's anything I'm good at, it's helping people get self-sustaining. I know LOTS about growing food. And soil, food forests, conservation, herbalism etc.

It's okay to not be okay. But lets keep trying tho k?๐Ÿซ‚

Alright so this is a bit nerdy BUT it is a fun science experiment to do with kids and it actually works for your plants.

1 part egg shells
9 parts white vinegar

This creates what's called Calcium Acetate. It's a form of calcium your plants can actually take in๐Ÿ’ช #science

FARM UPDATE:
Finally got the old windows changed out. 100% will be reusing them in a cold frame and greenhouse. I'll share the build plans if you want to do it too!

Now I just need the weather to not bite my face off and I can get to doing stuff! โ„๏ธ

I plan on doing more of these food forestry and gardening at scale videos, A LOT more, with a big focus on growing high calorie foods.
Tell me your general garden size and zone and I'll put stuff together on here as an example ๐Ÿซถ

LONG over due farm update. The garden is cleared, the fence is in. Now its time for planning and design.

I'm thinking about going live in walking through step-by-step how I'm doing it so if you want to learn how to do yours, give me a follow and let me know here.๐Ÿซถ #gardendesign #Permaculture

I've designed planting strategies for many CSAs, but now I get to do mine, it's so cool to see this come full circle!

I'm DETERMINED, I will feed my community and hopefully help you all to start your farm and do the same. #sustainablelandscapedesigner #garden #regenerativeagriculture #Permaculture

You don't need to grow a ton all at once, instead stagger and plan throughout the seasons.

Before and after of the garden.

I'll be using this space to teach how to do intensive gardening methods using Permaculture approach.

Let me know before what types of plants you want to see guilds for. ๐Ÿ˜

Sun is only one aspect of what you need to map. Don't forget to look at water (like creeks or drainage), rain, wind, snow, wildlife, fires, etc. They all play a role in how you plants thrive.

DAY 2 - Soil Survey is back! Good news ๐Ÿ‘ Its mostly silty loam which means amendments are reasonably easy to manage.

Now, onto the microclimates ๐Ÿ™Œ (this will be multiple parts as there are lots to examine)

DAY 1 - There are 3 big parts to building this farm. 1- Setting up the infrastructure, 2- Starting the business side, 3- Actually growing stuff.
I'm fully capable of doing all 3. Just gonna take some time, so come with me on this journey.

We're one step closer to finally growing on the farm.๐ŸŒทโœจ๏ธ

I've been busting ass redesigning our farm model and making great progress!

It's time we change things up!

What are we growing? FOOD (and flowers and herbs but mainly food). Direct to ppl who need it (by $, helping out, and/or barter)
