If you're trying to grow food and you wanna grow throughout the season, do yourself a favor and find your first and last freeze and frost dates.

Also look up your highest temp dates. These 3 pieces of information is gonna tell you when to best seed start, water, and harvest.

I love this! Big points on that worm farm! So many ppl miss out on how valuable worm castings are. Looks like you've got some happy plants.

2- Soil test in the spring and the fall. Focus on building soil composition (the balance of sand silt and clay) vs just nutrients and ph. Add organic matter, and explore watering with compost tea. Sandy soils tend to dry out faster and not hold nutrients well.

1- Pine trees drop needles that are great as mulch and basket weaving. What most ppl don't realize is (depending on the type of pine) those needles are acidic. Meaning as they decompose, they lower your soil ph naturally. Too low ph =👎

Even almost a year later, yep. I still feel this 🫂

I started my entire garden (now farming) journey by learning what birds mean.

An influx of barn swallows often == insects are about to boom.🐦

Goldfinches and sparrows == healthy soil and seed diversity.🌱

Aphids mean there's a nitrogen imbalance, which attracts chickadees.🪲

There's at least one person in every garden group that knows a ton about a thing (beit a about plants, certain birds or trees), Yet they are often the ones not speaking up and sharing their knowledge because they feel like everyone probably knows it.

Another thing, garden wise, often times there will be someone in the group that knows a lot about a thing (like a bird, insect, or plant) and they aren't usually first to share. Look for the person with knowledge and listen to their stories. That's where the magic is 👌

Hell yea way to go!!! ❤️‍🔥Something that helped me when I first started connecting with community, is connection doesn't always mean talking or engaging with ppl. It's helping others while honoring your energy limits in the process. Small acts and noticing others matter too.

Alright so this is a bit nerdy BUT it is a fun science experiment to do with kids and it actually works for your plants.

1 part egg shells
9 parts white vinegar

This creates what's called Calcium Acetate. It's a form of calcium your plants can actually take in💪 #science

Finally got the old windows changed out. 100% will be reusing them in a cold frame and greenhouse. I'll share the build plans if you want to do it too!

Sun is only one aspect of what you need to map. Don't forget to look at water (like creeks or drainage), rain, wind, snow, wildlife, fires, etc. They all play a role in how you plants thrive.
