Yeah Pocket's a good, cheap quick fix, but for the record I'm only talking paper competitive TCGs

That makes sense to me. I remember premium printings of cards eating a lot of the collector demand in Digimon, same as Pokemon. Suspect that hasn't changed.

I've thought about this a fair bit and I think lowering Magic's price would require:

- Keeping most staple effects and nonbasic lands at uncommon
- Keeping almost all pushed cards out of mythic

I don't think they're willing to do this for both monetary and Limited play reasons.

If you want to play the Pokemon TCG in paper a top-tier deck will run you ~$75, give or take a couple dozen. Been a while since I played Digimon but my memory is that most decks weren't more than $200. Only card game I've competed in that was as expensive as Magic is Lorcana.

Lotta Magic personalities rightly talking about Vivi Cauldron's exceptional price tag but...man, I don't go here anymore, but even the cheaper decks in Standard are still like $300-400. Magic is way too expensive. It doesn't have to be like this - some other games are much cheaper

Double sleeving, though, is incredibly standard now.

The practice of triple sleeving is still met with some (justified) derision. I think art sleeves like these are the one case where people won't make fun of you for it. People joke about the forbidden quadruple sleeve, in which you put this whole construction in a hard plastic toploader.

Thinking about this because I sleeved a Pokemon deck this morning. This deck is - unnecessarily - triple sleeved: perfect fit, toploading sleeve, clear extra-large bottomloading sleeve over it. I did this because I wanted to play with some art sleeves but they have very poor durability.

Yep! It's nice as an additional layer of dust/dirt protection and ensures you don't have to touch the card directly when moving it to another deck/resleeving
