As a trans person, I do have an ingrained part of my outlook about acts of desperation on the self against dysphoria/dysmorphia/whatever, even if it's exogenously-induced by preying on a vague sense of ego injury and bad sexual politics. Watching people cut themselves and binge-drink will do that.
