Self-Pubbing Update: I have received the edits from the editor. I'll be going over them over the next few days, and then I'll start working on formatting the book so I can get exact cover dimensions and things like that. My audio pub also wants some scripting stuff, but I can do them simultaneously.

Happy New Year, friends!
Self-Pubbing Update: Book One is off to the editor. I'm excited to see how much he finds to fix, and to get a tuned version so I can start formatting and things.

Self-Publishing process update: I have a slot secured with an editor, and will be moving forward with getting the first book edited in early January. The things I thought would take the longest are moving along nicely. It's time to figure out what's next to stress about on my list!

Self Published Book Launch A-Z
I recently released Legends & Lattes, my first full novel, on 2/22/22. Letβs discuss the whole process, end to end, with numbers!
Today in self-publishing: contacted a copy editor, got my cover art half paid for and the art notes in, and stuff like that. I'm working off of a combination of Travis Baldree's guide to self-publishing and advice from my writing community to guide me.

I'm going to be embarking on the self-publishing journey for my series, The Halcyon System. I'll be posting here periodically to talk about what I've been working on and what I've learned about the process over the next several months as I go from to-do list to pressing publish in Kindle.

This whole writing thing can be really hard sometimes. It's easy to forget that a setback is just a setback, and that the career is writing, not one book. With that in mind, I'm grateful for the opportunity I've had to try to make a career out of it, not matter the highs or lows.

I think it falls under the same kind of learning lie as "show don't tell," where the 'rules' exist for a reason, and once you know the reason, it's very possible to very cleverly break them intentionally.

Very is super-powerful as a voice thing, especially when you're writing a narrator who's, for example, younger and might not have the vocabulary to use 'devastated,' so just uses 'very sad' instead.

Your writing process will change on a daily basis with every project, because every project is different. Whatever gets you to the final product is the way that that book needed to be written.
So I need you to stop scrolling and say this aloud right now.
"My writing process is not broken."

Iron Prince update: I finished Book One. Phenomenal ending, very hype. Makes me want to download Book Two. I'll be doing some thinking about the first book and what other prog fantasy authors can learn from it, because it did a lot of things really well.

I've been listening to Iron Prince, and one big takeaway as a progression fantasy author is that losses are okay as long as the MC gains power/experience/levels from losing. Half the book is MC losing, but he's constantly improving, so it's totally fine. Learning and power-ups are enough winning.
