I cannot emphasize enough how much better it has been for me to try to find community through face to face events and volunteering instead of relying on corporate-owned systems of social engagements designed to monetize my desire for human connection.

When I walk or jog in the park, I will--with increasing frequency--have a neighbor or local official or a friend recognize me and wave to me. It's this sort of new baseline that makes me optimistic about kicking the socmed habit effectively.
