I think firing someone for their past is grounds for lawsuit. If telling your story is therapeutic for you then I say fuck whatever else anyone thinks. Only you matter to yourself. That’s the only thing that truly counts.

Is your book a memoir? I take pieces of my traumatic childhood and insert it into my fantasy novel. As long as your characters have a clear arc themselves then I don’t see how you can blow up your entire existence by inserting your childhood into fictional characters.
