Between heat and smoke I feel like I can only go out 1/3 of days at most (+ thunderstorms, but those seem within normal frequency). This is just life from now on, I guess.

yeah especially at a younger age, you don't want her needlessly exposed to that even if she's perfectly healthy otherwise. I have air purifiers running 24/7 indoors and I can still smell it a bit.

there is no short term solution to this but I think we have to take climate change into account as a reason some can't or won't use transit, rather than treating it like selfishness or laziness (or racism, if the person thinks there is more crime on transit than actually exists).

The vast majority of bus stops do not have shelters and most don't have anywhere to sit. Many buses don't run very often. You could wait for up to 40 minutes on some routes. As a disabled person I'm a bit of an outlier but I bet a lot of people just don't want to cope with that so they buy a car.

I wonder if climate change *negatively* affects transit ridership. I absolutely have to go someplace today and I'm just dreading walking to the stop and waiting, due to the AQI. Other times it's the heat. If I could buy a car I would do it immediately because I'm basically trapped in my apartment.

So I did a little experiment. Neither one of these mentions cats in any way and there is no alt text. The pictures and the text are similar. The English one got lots of likes from non-Ukrainians, and the Ukrainian one ONLY has likes from Ukrainians (+ one American who is learning the language)

I'm not quoting this post because I am not looking for a fight. But trans people are not literally banned from all these places or competitions. Yes, we are banned from certain aspects of these places and yes we face discrimination but I think giving in to hyperbole waters down the true horrors.

Someone last week posted that we were no longer allowed in the bathrooms of any entity that gets federal funding. That would instantly be the #1 topic of discussion on bsky if it were true. I pointed out that no news organization has posted anything about it and she blocked me.

it's wild that people will put my alt account on MAGA lists when I don't post at all about politics and I have zero interaction with Americans. The account is a month old and it's like 75% cats and memes.

There are a couple of Ukrainian politicians that are *trying* to build a cult of personality around themselves and they are widely scorned and mocked. I don't think any of our politicians would last a week there.

We have to get over the hero worship of political figures, because they will let us down 100% of the time. They need to be reminded that they work for us and not vice versa. We don't owe them anything at all and we don't have to wait for them to lead.

One notable thing about the recent Ukrainian protests was there was no leader. People just showed up. Americans are still, in August, waiting for a Dem politician to unite us and motivate us to act, and that is not going to happen. It's really a condemnation of our culture that we even need that.

yeah animals are very routine-oriented and when I (and my ex) had to put one dog down, the other was really confused/upset for awhile. Same with cats. Both got more clingy when they were the only pet. (Which is why I have Oscar, so Spooky can have a buddy. Now they both ignore me lol)

We used to have a literal drug dealer in the building and some sketchy people coming in and out, but they weren't there for me. One knocked on the door looking for the dealer but accepted it when I told him to go away. (I lied and said I would leave him a note.) Anyway, I didn't call the cops then.
