it's also kind of easy to fall into the trap of moderating to protect the Existence Of The Space over the People In That Space. both are foundational but there are times you need to prioritize the people because they are Why you are there

- banning should come with a clear explanation to the person, and sometimes the wider community if they were negatively impacted by the person/the ban
- you will likely see terrible terrible things and so having the support of other mods across communities is essential

from my couple years of moderating i learned:
- most people will correct themselves after a time out or 3 if they want to be in the community
- some people will not like you and you won't like them, but it doesn't matter, you have to keep them safe
- mediate first -> moderate when all else fails

even before the internet there was global solidarity on ending wars & all forms of oppression and i think that's neat

i read the news and sometimes the current moment seems impossible to overcome. so i been learning more of The People's history cuz it reminds me how we (collective) have come together during all the ends of the world
