It works really well to ground the horror in a story about identity. Collectivism is, in a sense, hubris. Trying to make sense of your world through ownership will take you to horrific places. “If I put it on my wall everyone will know I understand it, that I’m Civilized. Cultured.”

This right here. I love my art friends and art community, but I'm also trying to run a business as a freelancer/selling products and I need the reach! Every time we scatter to different platforms it's a little harder to exist as a working artist whose primary visibility is only online.

I think the most important thing to know before I start is how the world, characters, and the plot are going to serve my message. As soon as I've made enough to figure out WHY I'm saying what I'm saying, I can confidently determine where I want to start.

Yeah! Go with the hard fill, try lowering the opacity/changing the blending mode if you can’t rock with it at first. You can make another layer to start adding the highlights around it but try to hard commit to those big shadow shapes. I find I personally struggle with the big change at first.

As much as folks might not want to believe it, artists who sell their work cannot survive exclusively on platforms that cater to primarily other artists. The Circulating The Same Five Dollars™️ model can't feed us or pay bills for long. We need places where we can be seen and discovered.

I don't think motivating people to move to other platforms to avoid the stupid censorship rules is a good solution. Quite the opposite. There is NO SAFE space for artists nowadays, if we don't fight back this will only get worse and worse

The best shadow rule I ever heard was that they are linked geometric shapes and the more of them you can link together the more interesting shape you can make. The bigger the better.
