I know everyone’s always fussing about whether or not authors read, how they read, etc. it’s very important, but here’s the part not being said out loud. We all take breaks from reading and read differently throughout our lives. You can start again any day, and a break won’t make you bad.

Exactly! Plus, I get fatigued from looking at words all day long. A lot of time the last thing I wanna do is look at more words when I'm done writing for the night. I am trying to plan a staycation where I don't write and only read, but even that depends on mood.

The first episode of SaFic & Chill will be filmed this week and release next week!

Romance tropes that I love, hate, and can give or take. (In sapphic romance specifically, of course!)

When wlw write it as a lesbian dynamic, it tends to be about the character's emotional distance and building a connection as part of the lesbian romance. That's a compelling story arc/character arc that can indeed be relatable. But the politics are very different to the original trope. 5/6

I think this is a case of sapphic romance using an existing well-established romance archetype because those kinds of archetypes are part of the genre of romance. And romance is a genre largely shaped by the production of heterosexual media, which is the media that defined the Ice Queen. 2/x

Thank you for your replies! I agree, basically any book and romance trope tracks back to the patriarchy and het romance. I would say that I view "Ice Queen" as a sapphic trope, because of how much more emotional weight there is. It didn't start that way, but it's been reclaimed so to speak.

I appreciate your viewpoint on this! I would say that "Ice Queen" compares to "Golden Retriever BF". Part of their existence is based on the expectations placed on the genders by the patriarchy.

*Golden Retriever BF refers to a male character who is incredibly warm, kind, and doting.
