Furthermore, when people dismiss didactic art, they tend to have no problem with art that expresses reactionary right-wing ideas. It's only Leftist themes that bother them. I don't know why it's so hard for people to understand these basic facts.

When people recoil at "political" art, what they are doing is conflating didacticism with political. These are not the same thing. ALL art is political, but not all art is didactic.

You really have to hand it to the CIA. All the money and manpower they invested in supporting a Non-Communist Left (NCL) for decades paid off. People are more confused than ever and it never occurs to them to seek answers in theories they've been taught to distrust or despise.

Many are claiming this data is misleading, which, fine, I’m not one to defend metrics. The keys are usually in the dark, not under the lightpost, but the light is where we can look.

I will simply say, this more or less corroborates OpenAI’s own public statements.

I've read quite a lot on the subject and this book filled in a lot of gaps I didn't know I had. It offers truly brilliant analysis of complex political-economic realities in the Third World.

At the end of the episode we all recommend books, and this was my rec. It's absolutely essential to understand Western imperialism and resistance to it in the Global South.

jonathan demme's THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE is a modern american masterpiece, a prescient slice of paranoia and disinformation that understood how much of our political landscape was, & will, be based on lies. honored to write about it for @bwdr.bsky.social.

say it again:

4 million people work in higher ed, the largest employer in 10 states, second largest employer in 10 more, and in 60 of the 100 biggest cities

demolishing higher education is economic sabotage

It's important to note here that we're not just talking about faculty & university staff. 100s of U.S. colleges are in towns or small cities where they form the major industry & lifeblood of the community. Loss of students -> loss of rent $, restaurant $, bars, bookstores, gaming stores...
