This is genuinely one of the best books I’ve read in a long time and you’ll be able to read it too come April 2024.

If the UK is the mirror world to the US then we’re truly screwed

You’ve done it now so the spell has been broken.

Oooooh, idk, how do you separate thinking/ writing from politics? Some are more obvious than others so they win an Orwell Prize but like all the authors I work with write from a clear political standpoint. And I don’t think that only happens in nonfiction.

PS: it’s interesting to see the IS vs UK reception. The US engaged so fully with the politics which I was surprised by whereas the UK was mostly mocking of it (in reviews!). I kind of wonder if the US are only now waking up to truly left wings politics? Or maybe I’m just making things up

Interesting take. I would argue that all writing is political. Not as overtly as this one of course but she is an activist first and foremost so she couldn’t have written it differently. I’ll submit it as a quote haha.

This is all very interesting! Especially for market research, haha! O understand the point about capitalism and her very clearly stated political leanings.

I am rereading Jane Eyre after hating it at Uni and why did nobody tell me it’s a complete masterpiece?!

That’s so interesting. Do you mean the book comes across as a conspiracy theory or her thesis? I think people accused her of that in The Shock Doctrine but her point is that as investigative journalists you need to believe that even the most outrageous claims need investigations

How are you finding the new NK?

I’m not sure what side of Twitter she would have been though… We’re publishing a new translation of The Need for Roots btw.
