Great finale of a super interesting 5-day conference with a wonderful talk by Sergey Radchenko. Lot of inspirational ideas gathered. Holidays already over, next week I will be restarting my hard PhD work.

This week at the #ICCEES2025, I spoke about a stork as a messenger of spring and wonder, an ancestor who always finds its way home, and a body that bleeds and dies in the war. Grateful to other panelists, everyone who listened, and to all the friends I made in London!

Back from #ICCEES2025 in London where we had a great conference: stimulating panels and debates, meeting with old and new colleagues and friends… Lots of projects in the pipeline! I even managed not to buy too many books. 📚

The people in the photo enjoy spending time reading through kilometres of documents produced by the secret services, trying to extract any trace of meaning from them. It was a great joy to co-organise a panel on preventative policing and repression in the USSR and Czechoslovakia at #ICCEES2025

Truly energised by the #iccees2025 roundtable devoted to my new book, "Unfinished Empire".

#ICCEES day 4: Today, the 3rd party-funded projects at ZOiS came through – @sophiawinkler.bsky.social presented her PhD research on Russian migrants navigating transnational belonging for #MoveMeRu & Sabine von Löwis discussed maps & map making as critical resources as part of the #KonKoop network.

We were glad to be able to reflect on issues of agency and how to conduct research on this topic and see familiar faces at this Roundtable with @basees.bsky.social.
