A six-panel comic. In the first panel, a yellow warbler says "Hey so I'm going to go out on a limb here." In panels two through five, the warbler hops along a long branch against a blue sky with clouds. In panel 6, it stops at the end of the branch and sings.

As the year comes to an end, I'm reposting some of the comics I made this year, including this ridiculous thing.

In the original arcade version of Final Fight, there's a third button whose function is to escape grabs. It's not wired by default in arcade machines, but was left in the game code and can be accessed via emulation. Here, I tested it via MiSTerFPGA. It was probably used by the devs during QA.

A comic strip based off of the television show "Bluey." It is recreating the opening theme, where four anthropomorphic dogs dance in a blue background. In the first panel, three of the dogs are pointing at the mother dog, who has the word "mum" over her. In the second panel, three dogs are pointing at the father dog, who has the word "dad" over him. In the third panel, suddenly Tom Servo from the television show Mystery Science Theater 3000 is hovering in the middle of the panel. He is a res robot made out of a gumball machine. He has the words "Tom Servo" floating over him. The dogs look surprised and alarmed. In the final panel, Crow T Robot from Mystery Science Theater 3000 has also joined in, he is a gold robot made out of a bowling pin, athletic wire mask, and other stuff, and he is practically popping out of the panel at the viewer. The word "Croooow!" floats over him. The dogs just look confused now.

I feel like the gameplay loops of OSRS fall somewhere between meditative and self destructive. It feels nice when I'm in a bad headspace that I can chop yew logs for 10 hours while watching YouTube.

On the other hand, like, that's bad.

That's not healthy behavior.

I say this as someone who has played the game for thousands of hours across multiple accounts and never actually accomplished anything of note. I've never gotten a 99, I've never gotten a quest cape, I've never even gotten a fire cape.

I have spent hundreds of hours fishing lobsters though.

I think the fact that OSRS doesn't respect players time, and that the people who play it know that, really brings out a very specific kind of person.

Like, everything in the game is tedious and monotonous, so why wouldn't you arbitrarily make it more so? On some level you have to enjoy it, right?

There is a person on the OSRS subreddit who is trying to get 99 prayer only killing goblins in lumbridge. They posted their loot tracker with the update of them hitting 175,000 kills.

I saw a comment on an OSRS YouTube video that was using it as a rebuttal to the idea that humans would go mad if they were immortal, or even just lived for thousands of years.

I think most people would be driven mad by existing for that long, but I think they are correct some people would thrive.
