The main goal of transit is moving people. Collecting fares is how society has currently chosen to partially fund that. But the new gate and reader system puts fares over moving people. And that indicates a loss of mission focus on everyone's part.

When cops "clean up encampments," the result is that a nonzero number of unhoused people will die from that violence enacted on them; what do you THINK happens to people already barely clinging to existence when you do that to them?

They’re awful!!! I think curtailing evasion is always a waste of time, but the gates don’t even make a meaningful difference to that at most stops. So we just wasted a ton of money on security theater to *inhibit* ridership. 🤦‍♂️

Yeah, I'm aware they're not the same, but it's more about advocates NOT framing Waymo and unemployment also as enemies yet OFTEN seeing blue collar workers or local citizens as enemies.

We really gotta reevaluate a society where some of its "environmental" advocates are more concerned about the *potential* cost savings of automating public transit drivers than the environmental and social impact of the technology required to do that, assuming it is possible.

Why do we keep implementing more and more assistance programs when fares are only 3.6% of the budget? It’s less than a quarter of the surplus we just had. Just get rid of fares. Albuquerque did it already. Zero fares also means 40+% more rides and 30+% safer rides for drivers.

I can understand but from here my efforts against reaction would get directed to the bike lanes in San Mateo they’re already removing.

It helps, but the authors are still not working directly with the affected communities. Many are asking for right of return for properties that have already been demolished or let fall into such disrepair they caught on fire already and more specific affordability requirements.

FWIW it's only our electeds that have this anxiety for no apparent reason. The GRT polls better in our counties. Our officials are just undemocratically plugging their ears.

Progressive taxation is about evening tax burden between the rich and the poor if not weighting it heavier on the rich. For example, original income tax was only on millionaires, just like this proposal. Low margin businesses can be a reasonable concern but are not a class.

1. The tier was in the suggestion in the article you criticized. 2. A flat percentage tax would still be progressive 3. It’s not just about consumer, it’s also about employee income, which payroll tax unnecessarily affects compared to GR. So it is wrong. This GR is flatly better. Just move on.

And literature can be wrong. This is a proportional business income tax. It can be more progressive but it is factually progressive. You elsewhere suggested a payroll tax as more progressive when that is directly withheld from the employee. That is blatantly more regressive.
