🧑‍⚕️💙 A really long journey, but so happy to finally share this work! I I am very thankful to everyone who supported me & collaborated and with me during this journey; I learned a lot, I met and worked with wonderful people out there!

💡Why it matters: Policymakers should focus on supporting hospitals (and staff) in delivering timely, high-quality care. This is essential for fairer and better outcomes — and highlights the indispensable role of foreign-trained doctors in the NHS.

✅ 3. Foreign-trained doctors are indeed crucial to supporting English hospitals facing staff shortages and other resource constraints.

✅ 2. Timely and appropriate treatment can reduce mortality and offset hospital quality gaps and differences in workforce composition.

✅ 1. Hospitals with higher shares of foreign-trained doctors tend to have higher heart attack mortality on average — but this is rather driven by lower-quality, under-resourced hospitals, not by foreign doctors themselves.

It looks at the role of foreign-trained doctors in the English NHS and their relationship with hospital quality and patient outcomes. 🔑 Key findings:

⌛I've been working on this paper since early 2016, when I was a post-doc back in the @uniofsurrey.bsky.social; and this was also my JMP when I joined @citystgeorges.bsky.social as a Lecturer in #economics so this one is especially meaningful!
