Thinking about this passage from @jarodkanderson.bsky.social’s “Something in the Woods Loves You” as I continue my job search. When I was younger and journalism was less broken, I used to find a sense of purpose in my work, because it *meant* something to me. I don’t know the last time I felt that.

Long ago, a stone felt a tingle on its skin. Moss.
A new feeling. A green feeling.
The granite spoke of ages in the heat of deep Earth.
The moss sang the taste of sunlight and the softness of salamander bellies.
They named one another. And told those names to no one at all.

A handful of my poems that I hope, one day, won’t feel so relevant.

Defunding scientists doesn’t make the climate crisis go away.
Empathy is not just a virtue; it’s the best virtue.
Feed Gaza. Stop the genocide.
Due process is for every person.
Healthcare, shelter, and food are basic human rights.

Dear Team,
In lieu of our Zoom meeting this afternoon,
let’s all agree to wander beneath the trees tonight when
the moon is high.
Let’s sink our fingers into the soil and send messages
via fungi and salamander.
If that fails, let’s simply live on,
having lost nothing at all.

Another year, another St. Riley’s Day. I miss you, the goodest boy there ever was 💚

We are not our possessions,
but we are our gardens.
Within and without,
our story is told
through what we nurture.

So, Trump's plan will raise taxes for most Americans. It's also projected to increase the national debt. Meanwhile, they are gutting programs that benefit us. So, we'll be paying more for less while accruing debt (all to benefit billionaires). How is this fiscal responsibility? It's not. Ridiculous.
