29.07.2025 10:39 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0It says something that, even though he lived to 97, hearing Tom Lehrer has gone makes me think 'much, much too young'. One of the greatest satirists of all time. Here's a niche one, and one of my faves.

Thank you, that's kind! I think it's easy to bung money at Charge Point operators (and we'll def need a big network of chargers of course) but the (better) domestic solution is newer and more distributed - lacks powerful industry champions - so policy is still catching up! I think it'll get there...

18.07.2025 13:32 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0So good to see the FT finally call out the Conservative Party for its reckless non-sense on climate:

Must read from @stephenkb.bsky.social on the fundamental flaw in the Tory and Reform non-approach to climate change.

Wow! That's incredibly good stuff.
Sorry to be stupid, but presumably this isn't for domestic use? As in, obviously the kerbside unit still needs to connect to somewhere?
BUT - that is very impressive. What a neat solution.
I agree with that! I was trying to say that domestic charging is better *because* it's by far the cheapest and most convenient way to do it.
14.07.2025 06:15 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0an adapted version of an existing drainage channel (so there's several decades of experience of fitting those and there is def no maintenance risk in *that* case) but others are newer. Anyway, nice to chat about it!
13.07.2025 20:49 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0and it sounds like you have many more lamppost chargers which seem like another very sensible way around the problem when you have cars on street.
Re the maintenance, the firms offering these have different solutions. I think one is...
Hi Max - that is all very reasonable - yes it's def not the answer for everything, mansion blocks, etc. I think the best use case is terraced housing without driveways (assuming the inevitable rows about parking outside your own home can be navigated!) -
13.07.2025 20:49 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 01) Depending on your mileage you'd have to park outside your home perhaps once a fortnight. I think this isn't onerous
2) I just think that is a problem that will have to be solved eventually if we want to to unlock the £5 charge. The benefits are much greater than fears of 'privatising kerbside'
Hi - semi-professional gully journalist here! Just FYI I think VAT is a bit of a canard - fast chargers can cost 10-12 times what domestic supply does. Tweaking VAT won't unlock cheap charge. Secondly - I'm not aware of anyone, ever, tripping over one of these inch-wide gullies. They really work.
